Punjab govt has declared a holiday on 1st December 2016. The holiday on 1 December is declared on account of Bhagwan Valmiki Ji Murti Sathapna (Idol installation) at Bhagwan Valmiki Tirath Sthal (Ram Tirath) near Amritsar. There is an ancient hermitage at this place and it is believed that Maharishi Valmiki lived at this place.
